Eradication of Cosmos weed

Department of Botany and NSS, organised a eradication of 'Exotic Weed Cosmos' campaign from Yewateshwar western ghat region on dated 10 Dec 2022. Cosmos is a native of Mexico and Central America and the it moves to the India which is highly affected for the native plants.
Individual Cosmos shrub produces nearly 45 to 50 flowers with 25 to 30 seeds per flower. 1000 to 1200 seeds were produced from each plant and is transferred to every were by wind.
All the vehicles are travelled from Pune to Kaas Platue were crossed from Yewateshwar Ghat region and seeds are spread by the tiers of same vehicle. Two three years back Cosmos expansion was in less quantity but now it is uncontrollably spread.
Cosmos weed is highly spreading from Yewateshwar Ghat region towards the Kaas Platue so now it is necessary to control in the Ghat region itself otherwise it will affect to the Kaas flowers.
Students from Department of Botany Lal Bahadur Shastri College, Satara and volunteers from BRCF uprooted Cosmos exotic weed from ghat region, dried and burned out.
Blooming of Cosmos flower occurs in between the month of September to October. As because of heavy rainfall route of the ghat region becomes slue. Human chain is the perfect way to removes the Cosmos weed.
All over the India, BRCF concentrate on this type of campaign. BRCF volunteers and students from LBS College Satara were worked together to eradicate the Cosmos and become succeed. Tis campaign will be continue until and unless Cosmos eradicate totally.
