Eradication of Cosmos weed

 

Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Arts, Science and Commerce Satara.

Department of Botany 

Department of Botany and NSS, organised a eradication of 'Exotic Weed Cosmos' campaign from Yewateshwar western ghat region on dated 10 Dec 2022. Cosmos is a native of Mexico and Central America and the it moves to the India which is highly affected for the native plants.
                                                                  
                                                                                   

  
Individual Cosmos shrub produces nearly 45 to 50 flowers with 25 to 30 seeds per flower. 1000 to 1200 seeds were produced from each plant and is transferred to every were by wind.


All the vehicles are travelled from Pune to Kaas Platue were crossed from Yewateshwar Ghat region and seeds are spread by the tiers of same vehicle. Two three years back Cosmos expansion was in less quantity but now it is uncontrollably spread.


Cosmos weed is highly spreading from Yewateshwar Ghat region towards the Kaas Platue so now it is necessary to control in the Ghat region itself otherwise it will affect to the Kaas flowers. 


Students from Department of Botany Lal Bahadur Shastri College, Satara and volunteers from BRCF uprooted Cosmos exotic weed from ghat region, dried and burned out.


Blooming of  Cosmos flower occurs in between the month of September to October. As because of heavy rainfall route of the ghat region becomes slue. Human chain is the perfect way to removes the Cosmos weed.


All over the India, BRCF concentrate on this type of campaign. BRCF volunteers and students from LBS College Satara were worked together to eradicate the Cosmos and become succeed. Tis campaign will be continue until and unless Cosmos eradicate totally.


Department of Botany is greatly thankful to Hon. Prin. Dr. R. V. Shejwal for their valuable guidance, as well as gratitude towards Deputy Conservator of Forest who had given the permission for this campaign. Department also thankful to BRCF for their uncountable cooperation,

On the occasion of "World Earth Day" Department of Botany has organised "No Vehicle Day" by taking Oath, there is none of the staff, students and non teaching staff were strictly avoid to travel by their vehicles. For the Oath Honr. Prin . Dr. Shejwal R. V., all teaching, non teaching staff as well as students from LBS College Satara were present and Mr. Mohite S. A. Head Dept. of Batany had given the Oath. On the same day Department has organised a lecture on topic " Environmental Pollution" by Dr. Deshmukh H. V. YCIS College Satara. This programme enlighten the student about day to day pollution and everyone came to know about the importance of our mother Earth.

Wall Paper Presentation

 

Department of Botany

                    Wall Paper Presentation on Nine Herbs for Navratri

           On the occasion of Navratri Festival Department of Botany has organised ''Wall Paper Presentation on Nine Herbs". Nine different wall papers were prepared by B. Sc. II students on nine different herbal plants. The function has been inaugurated by Vice Princ. Dr. Tawar sir (Department of Marathi). The programme has lead by the Mr. Mohite S. A. (HOD of Botany) and Mr. Sabale R. R. The teaching and non teaching staff of Botany were actively participated to organise the programme and all the science students attended the programme and gain the awareness about the importance of the herbal plants. The programme were held from 26 October to November 4.

Online plant photography competition was organised by Department of Botany,  Sanjivani  Arts, Commerce and Science College, Kopargaon on the occasion of World Algal Day on dated 12 October 2022. First prize was own by Dr. Sharmishtha Vishwas Patil Assi. Prof. department of Botany LBS College Satara.

Kaas Mahotsav

Department of Botany has organised one day excursion trip on the Kaas Platue for the B. Sc. II students on the "Kaas Mahosav". The excursion trip was arranged on dated 07 Oct. 2022. Mr. Mohite S. A. (HOD) and Mr. Sabale R. R. (Prof.) of Botany Department lead the excursion trip. Teaching and non teaching staff also be joined for the same.


On the occasion of "Kaas Mahotsav" a Quiz competition were organised on subject "Fencing on Kaas" by the Dept. of Botany LBS College Satara and was open for all. The discussion about whether the fencing is necessary to the Kaas Platue? All students were actively participated and openly explore their opinion regarding the fencing. After the quiz competition the students were carried out for the field study.



Mr. Mohite S.A. and Mr. Sabale R. R. sir explained the different varieties of flowers on Kaas. Endangered and endemic plant of the Kaas Platue and their conservation. How flora's and fauna's and interlinked on Kaas Patue. Students came to know the value of Kaas and was enjoyed the excursion trip.
